You’re newly engaged, you’re thinking about all the wedding plans, booking dates and venues and envisioning all the little details. But have you thought about engagement photos?? I’m here to tell you why I think engagement photos are WORTH IT!
I absolutely love doing engagement photos. I think they’re such an important part of telling your story and making memories together. This time is so special and unique and it passes so fast. I love looking back on my engagement and seeing where our story took us, how far we’ve come, and how much more is still being written. And also isn’t it just fun to look back and see how freakin’ young we were!? Just babies! We didn’t really know what we were getting into. We thought we did. We had dreams and visions and goals. But life took turns and directions that we never could’ve imagined. And I wouldn’t have wanted to do that journey with anyone else so looking back at those photos brings me back and makes me so grateful for all the things we didn’t know were coming our way but we faced together.
And then seeing your engagement photos with your wedding photos is so much more magical because it’s another major milestone in your relationship.
There are so many ways that engagement photos can be used for your wedding day. First, you can use them to decorate for your wedding shower or invitations to your wedding shower. And even more than that, you can use them for your wedding invitation, your wedding info website, as well as decorations for your wedding day. One of my favourite decoration pieces at weddings is when couples do a “story board” of all their photos showing their whole timeline. It’s so beautiful! There are so many creative ways to use your photos for decorations.
You may not have thought of this but engagement photos are actually a great way to get to know your photographer before your big day! Think about it. Your photographer will be close to you, following you around for hours on one of the biggest days of your life. You will be much more comfortable having done a sort of “practice round” of photos before your wedding day so that on your day you can feel relaxed and at ease.
The most important part of your wedding photos is capturing your unique connection and story. It is so nice for the photographer to do engagement photos to get to know you more than just a zoom call or 2 and through questionnaires. It gives an opportunity to break the ice and for the photographer to see how you and your partner relate to each other, what makes you two laugh, what brings you two joy, what connects you together. So then on the wedding day, in all its blurred excitement, the photographer has already gotten to know you and can use that to capture your unique personality and connection perfectly!
Use this as a way to go on an amazing adventure together before you tie the knot! To be able to say, remember when we climbed Mont Tremblant or took in the incredible views of the river front before we got married? It’s a moment to take in all that this engagement means and to get excited for what’s to come!! All the many more adventures you will do together in the next chapter.
